Saiga Rifles

The Saiga semi-automatic rifles are a sport/civilian version of the original AK47 assault rifles manufactured by Kalashnikov Concern (formerly Izhmash), and are named after the Saiga antelope that used to roam the Eurasian flat lands and due too massive hunting is now on the endangered species list.  The Saiga rifles were developed for shooters who wanted the reliability of an AK rifle system in a non-military package.  The rifle is currently made in the Izhmash factory, the same plant that makes Kalashnikov military AKs.  After the U.S. imposed sanctions against Russia in response to their invasion and annexation of the Crimea, imports from the Kalashnikov Concern company (parent company of Izhmash) were banned from import to the US.
